Customer story video
A customer story only works if every word in it is true and approved.
A customer story video narrates a real, approved account of what a customer faced, did and achieved. A presenter tells the story in 60 to 90 seconds; every claim and number must be signed off in writing first.
The detail, in plain English
Get approval before you write, not after you produce. Send the customer the exact script and keep their written reply.
Structure it as situation, action, result. The result must be something the customer will stand behind publicly.
A presenter narrating an approved story is honest. A presenter pretending to be the customer is not — never imply the presenter is the client.
What to do, step by step
- 1Agree the facts in writingThe situation, the action and any numbers, approved by the customer.
- 2Write it as narrationThird person, clearly the company telling a customer's story.
- 3Send the final video for sign-offBefore it goes anywhere public.
The short version in a table
| Item | Required |
|---|---|
| Written approval of the script | Yes |
| Approval of every number quoted | Yes |
| Permission to name the organisation | Yes, explicitly |
| Sign-off on the finished video | Yes |
| Any invented detail | Never |
A worked example
Worked example (illustration). A B2B supplier turns an approved written case study into a 75-second narrated video, reusing the exact wording the client's marketing team already signed off for their own site.
What to watch out for
- Never invent a quotation, a figure or a job title.
- Do not use a presenter to impersonate the named customer.
- Re-confirm approval if the customer's circumstances change.

Questions people ask
Do I need any video experience?
No, but you do need a paper trail. The production is straightforward; the approvals are the part that needs care.
How much does it cost?
A 75-second story is a little over a minute of allowance. Free covers your first one; Starter at £49 a month covers a steady programme.
Can I edit it afterwards?
Yes. If a customer asks for a change, edit the script, reproduce, and get sign-off on the new version before republishing.
