Getting paid

Collecting payment for video work

Video work is small and frequent, which is exactly the worst shape for 30-day invoicing.

Put a price on the video itself. The client watches, comments and approves freely, then pays by card to download the finished file. A 5% platform fee applies to sales collected this way; the rest is yours.

How it works, step by step

  1. 1Set the price on the shareWatching and commenting stay free; the download is what payment unlocks.
  2. 2Send to the primary contactOther contacts are copied, so the person who approves and the person who pays can differ.
  3. 3Let the card do the chasingPayment and approval become one action, which removes the 30-day gap entirely.
  4. 4Handle refunds in the same placeFull or partial refunds are recorded against the sale, so your revenue figures stay true.

A worked example in pounds

Worked example (illustration). A £400 video priced on the link is paid the day it is sent. The platform fee is £20, leaving £380, against a 30-day invoice for the same £400 that arrives six weeks later.

What to watch out for

  • The 5% fee applies only to sales collected through the platform, not to your own invoices.
  • Larger retained clients may still require purchase orders and invoices; use the link method for smaller pieces.
  • Refunds reduce your recorded revenue, so reconcile monthly rather than at year end.

Questions agencies ask

How long does this take?

Setting a price on a video takes seconds. Payment usually arrives the same day the link is opened, rather than at the end of a payment term.

What does it cost?

A 5% platform fee on the sale. On a £400 video that is £20, and your plan cost is unchanged.

Does the client need an account?

No. The client pays by card on the review page. They never create an account, and the receipt is emailed to them.
