Planning a video series
A series is a promise about what comes next. Make that promise small enough to keep.
Plan a series by fixing one audience, one presenter and one episode length, then listing every episode as a single question it answers. Each episode should stand alone while pointing at the next.
The detail, in plain English
The reason most series stall at episode four is scope. Six tight episodes shipped beat twelve planned.
Write the full episode list before you produce the first one. If you cannot name episode six, the series is really three episodes.
Consistency is the signal that this is a series: same presenter, same length, same open, same sign-off.
What to do, step by step
- 1Name the audience and the outcomeOne audience, one thing they can do by the end.
- 2List every episode as a questionIf two episodes answer the same question, merge them.
- 3Fix the formatSame presenter, same length, same closing line pointing to the next episode.
The short version in a table
| Episode | Question it answers | Length |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | What will I be able to do by episode six? | 60s |
| 2 | How do I set my account up? | 90s |
| 3 | What is the first thing to build? | 90s |
| 4 | How do I invite my team? | 60s |
| 5 | What do I check each week? | 90s |
| 6 | Where do I get help? | 45s |
A worked example
Worked example (illustration). A membership body replaces a 40-minute induction webinar with six short episodes and finds members reach the final episode because each one answers a single question they actually had.
What to watch out for
- Do not promise a weekly cadence you cannot sustain past week three.
- Avoid episode numbers in the spoken script if you might reorder later.
- Publish episode one only when episode two is already made.
How AutoPersonify does it
AutoPersonify gives you 143 real presenters, scripts in 42 languages and a free tier with no card, so you can make a finished video before you decide on a plan. Paid plans are Starter £49, Growth £149 and Scale £499 a month, all measured in finished video minutes.
Questions people ask
Do I need any video experience?
No. Planning a series is an editorial job. Once the episode list exists, making each one is the same three steps as any single video.
How much does it cost?
Budget by total minutes. A six-episode series of roughly 90 seconds each fits comfortably inside Starter at £49 a month.
Can I edit it afterwards?
Yes. You can reproduce any single episode without touching the others, which is why avoiding spoken episode numbers pays off.
