Volume planning
How many videos per client per month
Sell too few and the retainer looks thin. Sell too many and nobody uses them. The right number is usually four.
Most retained clients use four short videos a month: one product or service explainer, one social cut, one sales follow-up and one internal or customer update. Four videos of 90 seconds costs six finished minutes a month.
How it works, step by step
- 1Count the channels, not the ideasEach video should have a home before it is made: a page, a campaign, an email sequence.
- 2Start at four and review after two monthsUsage data, not enthusiasm, decides whether it becomes eight.
- 3Batch them on one dayOne scripting session a month is cheaper in attention than four separate ones.
- 4Check the plan maths before signingFour videos a month per client means six minutes each. Growth's 120 minutes covers twenty such clients.
The numbers in front of you
| Client type | Videos a month | Finished minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Local service business | 2 | 3 |
| B2B services firm | 4 | 6 |
| E-commerce brand | 8 | 10 |
| Multi-location group | 12 | 16 |
A worked example in pounds
Worked example (illustration). An agency runs eight B2B clients at four videos each: 32 videos, 48 finished minutes a month. That fits inside Growth at £149 with 72 minutes left for speculative work.
What to watch out for
- Unused videos are the reason retainers get cancelled. Fewer, used, beats more, ignored.
- Longer videos eat minutes quickly: one five-minute video costs the same as three 100-second ones.
- Leave headroom in the plan for revisions, which use minutes again.
