Winning work
Video production proposal template
Long video proposals lose to short ones with the work already attached. Here is the structure that wins.
Keep a video proposal to one page: the outcome, the format, three prices, timings and terms. Attach a finished sample video made for that prospect, because a proposal you can watch beats one you have to imagine.
How it works, step by step
- 1Open with the outcomeOne sentence about what the video is for, in the client's words, not a description of your process.
- 2Offer three prices, not oneA single figure invites negotiation. Three invites a choice.
- 3State the timings honestlyProduction is minutes, approvals are days. Say so, because it sets you apart from a four-week studio quote.
- 4Attach a sample they appear inA 45-second video about their own business does more than the other four sections combined.
The numbers in front of you
| Section | Length | What it must contain |
|---|---|---|
| Outcome | 1 sentence | What the video achieves for them |
| Format | 3 bullets | Length, presenter, where it will be used |
| Investment | 3 rows | Single, batch and monthly prices |
| Timings | 2 lines | Draft in 48 hours, final on approval |
| Terms | 3 lines | One round included, revision fee, ownership |
A worked example in pounds
Worked example (illustration). An agency quotes £350 for one video, £1,500 for five and £1,000 a month for four. It attaches a 45-second sample costing 0.75 of a finished minute. Win rate is the only number that matters and the sample costs almost nothing to produce.
What to watch out for
- Never promise a delivery time you cannot meet because approvals sit with the client.
- Do not include a portfolio section. The attached sample is the portfolio.
- State ownership plainly: the client owns the finished video once paid.
Questions agencies ask
How long does this take?
The proposal takes fifteen minutes to adapt per prospect. The sample video attached to it is produced in minutes from their website.
What does it cost?
A 45-second sample uses three quarters of a finished minute. Even on the free allowance of three minutes you can attach samples to four proposals.
Does the client need an account?
No. The sample is a link in the proposal. The prospect watches it in a browser with nothing to sign up for.
