Annual review
Annual review video
The year, in the time it takes to make a coffee.
Upload the annual review as a PDF or Word file, or paste its summary. The script step turns the year into a spoken narrative you edit. Choose a presenter and share a video far more people will finish.
The detail, in plain English
Annual reviews are written for the record and read by almost nobody. The video is the version for members, staff and supporters: three things that happened, one honest difficulty, and what next year holds.
Choose a small number of figures and stand behind them. Two or three carefully chosen numbers from the review carry more weight spoken than a dozen read in sequence.
What to do, step by step
- 1Upload the reviewPDF and Word files are read in your browser, so the summary and headline figures come through as text.
- 2Choose three moments and one difficultyBuild the script around what genuinely changed, and include the hard part. Reviews that omit it are not believed.
- 3Produce and publishPick a presenter, produce around two minutes, and publish the video alongside the full document.
What this format looks like as a video
| Section | Length |
|---|---|
| Where the year started | 20 seconds |
| Three things that happened | 60 seconds |
| The difficult part | 20 seconds |
| Two figures worth stating | 15 seconds |
| Next year | 20 seconds |
A worked example
Worked example (illustration). A 40-page annual review for a membership body becomes a 2-minute video: the position at the start of the year, three developments, the honest note about a delayed project, two membership figures, and the priority for the coming year.
What to watch out for
- Every figure spoken must appear in the published review.
- Leaving out the difficult part makes the whole video sound like marketing.
- Do not thank a list of people by name; it works in print and drags on film.
How AutoPersonify does it
PDF, Word, plain text and Markdown files are read in your browser, and a public web address can be read for you. Everything else is pasted in as text. You then get 143 real presenters, scripts in 42 languages, and a free tier with no card. Paid plans are Starter £49, Growth £149 and Scale £499 a month, measured in finished video minutes.
Questions people ask
How long does it take?
Around half an hour, and approval takes longer. Choosing which three moments represent the year is the real work.
Can I change the wording?
Yes, and it is usually rewritten completely, because annual review prose is formal and the video version needs to sound like a person speaking.
What does it cost?
Free to make one. An organisation producing one review video a year needs nothing beyond the free tier or Starter at £49 a month.
