Third sector
Video for charities
Appeals, thank-yous and impact reporting, produced on a budget that respects donors.
Charities make four: an appeal video, a donor thank-you, an impact report summary and a volunteer briefing. Each is produced in minutes at a cost that is straightforward to justify to trustees and funders.
Why video earns its place here
Fundraising video usually fails on cost, not quality. A short appeal made for the price of a monthly subscription can be tested across three audiences rather than betting a restricted grant on a single production.
Thank-you videos affect retention more than acquisition spend does. A named sixty-second thank-you sent within a week of a first gift is the cheapest second-donation driver most charities have.
The four videos this sector makes most
| Video | Length | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Appeal video | 60–90 seconds | The need, the specific ask and what a set amount pays for |
| Donor thank-you | 30–45 seconds | Sent within a week of a gift, naming what it funded |
| Impact report summary | 2 minutes | Turn the annual report into something trustees and funders will watch |
| Volunteer briefing | 90 seconds | Role expectations, safeguarding basics and who to contact |
A worked script outline
- 1Open with the need, not the organisation"Last winter, our night service turned people away on eleven separate nights."
- 2Make the ask specific"£25 pays for one bed, one meal and one conversation with a support worker."
- 3Say where the money does not go"Gifts to this appeal fund the night service directly; core costs are met separately."
- 4Close with one route to give"Give through the link below, and we will tell you what your gift funded."
Compliance and tone notes
- Fundraising appeals must be truthful about how donations are used; if funds are restricted, say so in the script.
- Never use a beneficiary's image, name or story without informed, recorded consent and a clear right to withdraw it.
- Safeguarding comes before storytelling — do not include identifying details of children or at-risk adults in a shareable video.
- Where a video supports a specific appeal total or match-funding claim, keep evidence of the figure for the duration it is published.

Questions people ask
Is there a free tier?
Yes, and no card is needed, which matters when spend must be approved. Most charities build one thank-you video before asking for any budget at all.
Can I use my own likeness?
Yes. Chief executives and service leads often appear as themselves for appeals, while presenters cover general information videos.
Do you support other languages?
Yes, 42 languages. Service information in community languages is usually the first place charities use it rather than fundraising.
