Video for councils

Service changes, consultations and resident guides, produced inside existing budgets.

Councils make four: a service change notice, a consultation explainer, a staff briefing and a how-to guide for a resident service. Each is produced in minutes, which suits statutory deadlines and small communications teams.

Why video earns its place here

Service changes generate contact centre volume. A short video explaining a bin collection change or a new parking scheme, linked from the web page and the letter, reduces calls from residents who simply want confirmation.

Consultations need reach, not polish. Explaining what is being decided, what is not up for debate and how to respond, in ninety seconds, improves response quality more than a longer document does.

The four videos this sector makes most

Typical lengths and what each one is for

Consultation explainer90 secondsThe decision, the options and how to respond before the deadline
Staff briefing60 secondsOne message issued identically across directorates

A worked script outline

  1. 1State the change and the date"From the sixth of October, garden waste collections move to fortnightly."
  2. 2Say exactly who is affected"This affects households in the north of the borough with a brown bin."
  3. 3Give the one action required"Check your new collection day using the postcode checker on our website."
  4. 4Close with support routes"If you need an assisted collection, apply through the link below."

Compliance and tone notes

  • Accessibility regulations apply to public sector content. Publish captions and a text alternative alongside every video, and keep language at plain-English reading level.
  • During pre-election periods, restrict content to factual service information and avoid anything that could be read as promoting a party or candidate.
  • Consultation videos must state the decision-making process and the deadline accurately, since responses affect a statutory duty.
  • Do not state eligibility for benefits, discounts or exemptions as a rule; direct residents to the assessment or application process.

Questions people ask

Is there a free tier?

Yes, with no card, which allows a communications team to trial it before raising a purchase order. One service change notice is the normal test.

Can I use my own likeness?

Yes. Service directors sometimes appear as themselves for consultations, though most routine notices use presenters to keep the tone neutral.

Do you support other languages?

Yes, 42 languages. Community language versions of service notices are the most common request from equality and inclusion teams.
